A Day in the Wilderness of Judea

Let’s say that you have a plot of land in Germany, and you don’t work it. Someone else does. You don’t pay attention because you aren’t using it. Then you return and claim the land. When the German legal authorities look into it they will say it is no longer your land. It belongs to the one ...  Read More »

Howl [Gone to Palestine: 4]

Howl Considering the fact that our literature workshop at Birzeit almost didn’t take place at all, it was a real success. New Methods of Warfare Target Civilians--And it's Legal

The laws of war, or humanitarian law, are dynamic and read like a rich treatise on lessons learned-always commentary on the regulations of war that should have existed in order to avoid grotesque brutality. Consider that the International Committee of the Red Cross is the progeny of Henri Dunant's reflections on the ...  Read More »

The Poet Lives

Two years have passed since the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish (1941-2008) died at a hospital in Texas from complication of heart surgery on August 9, 2008. About the Palestine Page

Since its launch in 2010, Jadaliyya has published many incisive pieces on Palestine and Palestinians across a broad disciplinary spectrum. To date, those works have been featured on the Occupation, Intervention, Law (O.I.L.) page. Now Palestine has its own page (and OIL is being revamped a Law and Conflict page). This change allows Palestine to command the distinctive attention that it deserves, and the concentration of articles and other materials on this new page will make it easier for our readers to find what they are looking for when they go to the Jadaliyya home page. Welcome to the Palestine Page!
